What is CVE-2019-20042?
The vulnerability exists in the wp-includes/formatting.php component of WordPress versions 3.7 to 5.3.0. It allows attackers to leverage the wp_targeted_link_rel() function to create stored XSS attacks, enabling malicious scripts to be executed in the context of the user's browser. This can lead to unauthorized actions and data theft. WordPress 5.3.1 and subsequent versions address this issue through a targeted security patch.
