What is CVE-2022-25243?

The PKI secrets engine in Vault and Vault Enterprise versions 1.8.0 through 1.8.8, along with 1.9.3, contains a vulnerability that permits the issuance of wildcard certificates to authorized users for specified domains, even if the role policy's allow_subdomains attribute is configured to false. This aligns with a failure to enforce restrictions properly under certain conditions, potentially allowing unauthorized access to certificate resources. Users are advised to upgrade to Vault Enterprise versions 1.8.9 or 1.9.4 for remediation.
