Unauthorized Access Vulnerability in Friends Plugin for WordPress
CVE-2024-12028
5.3MEDIUM
Summary
The Friends plugin for WordPress suffers from a significant security flaw due to the absence of a proper capability check on various REST API endpoints. This vulnerability affects all versions of the plugin up to and including version 3.2.1. Because of this oversight, unauthenticated attackers can exploit the vulnerability to send unsolicited friend requests on behalf of any website, thereby gaining the ability to accept these requests for the targeted website. This unauthorized interaction allows attackers to communicate with the compromised website as an accepted friend, posing a serious threat to the confidentiality and integrity of user data.
