What is CVE-2024-12295?
The BoomBox Theme Extensions plugin for WordPress is susceptible to privilege escalation due to improper validation of user identity when users attempt to reset their passwords via the 'boombox_ajax_reset_password' function. This flaw allows authenticated users with subscriber-level roles and higher to change the passwords of any user, including administrators, thereby gaining unauthorized access to their accounts. This vulnerability exists in all versions of the plugin up to and including 1.8.0, making it critical for users to implement necessary security measures and update to the latest version to safeguard their WordPress sites.
