What is CVE-2024-12743?

The MailPoet WordPress plugin versions prior to 5.5.2 fail to properly sanitize and escape certain settings. This oversight permits high privilege users, such as administrators, to execute Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attacks, even in setups where the unfiltered_html capability is disabled, such as in multisite environments. This vulnerability poses significant security risks, as attackers could exploit this flaw to inject malicious scripts, potentially compromising user data and site integrity.

Affected Version(s)

MailPoet 0 < 5.5.2

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
