Summary
The WP-Syntax WordPress plugin, up to version 1.2, fails to properly validate user input, allowing attackers to exploit a catastrophic backtracking flaw in the regular expression handling. By submitting posts laden with an excessive number of tags, an attacker can trigger this vulnerability, leading to a denial of service situation that disrupts the site's functionality. Such a flaw exposes sites to potential downtime and affects user experience.
