What is CVE-2024-2290?

The Advanced Ads plugin for WordPress contains a vulnerability that allows for PHP Object Injection through the 'placement_slug' parameter via deserialization of untrusted input. This flaw affects all versions up to and including 1.52.1. While the vulnerable plugin itself does not contain a PHP Object Pollution (POP) chain, the presence of a POP chain in any additional plugins or themes installed on the target WordPress site could enable an authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code, delete files, or access sensitive information. Proper caution and updates are recommended to mitigate potential risks.
