What is CVE-2024-2417?

The User Registration – Custom Registration Form, Login Form, and User Profile plugin for WordPress has a critical vulnerability allowing privilege escalation. This vulnerability arises from a missing capability check in the form_save_action() function across all versions up to and including 3.1.5. Authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access or higher can exploit this weakness to modify the registration form, designating the default registration role as administrator. As a result, attackers can create new accounts with administrator privileges, posing significant risks to the integrity and security of the WordPress site.
