Summary

The WP Maps plugin for WordPress prior to version 4.7.2 contains a vulnerability where certain map settings are not properly sanitized and escaped. This oversight could enable high-privilege users, such as administrators, to execute Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attacks, even in environments where the unfiltered_html capability is restricted, such as multisite installations. As a result, attackers could potentially inject malicious scripts into the application's frontend, jeopardizing the security of users interacting with the affected site.

Affected Version(s)

WP Maps 0 < 4.7.2

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
