What is CVE-2025-5701?

The HyperComments plugin for WordPress contains a flaw that allows unauthorized modification of site data due to a missing capability check in the hc_request_handler function. This vulnerability affects all versions before and including 1.2.2, enabling unauthenticated attackers to change arbitrary settings on the WordPress site. Exploiting this weakness could permit attackers to elevate user privileges by altering the default registration role to administrator, facilitating unauthorized access to sensitive areas of the site.
