What is CVE-2026-12516?

The Fediverse Embeds WordPress plugin prior to version 1.5.8 is susceptible to a security flaw that permits unauthenticated users to submit server-side requests to arbitrary URLs. This vulnerability arises from the lack of validation checks on the destination of the requests made through a media-proxying endpoint. Attackers can exploit this oversight to force the site to fetch and retrieve content from internal and private-network addresses, effectively leading to unauthorized data exposure. This situation creates a significant security risk as it may allow sensitive information to be leaked from internal networks.

Affected Version(s)

Fediverse Embeds 0 < 1.5.8

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
