What is CVE-2026-17005?
The Horizontal Scrolling Announcements Plugin for WordPress, up to version 2.6, is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS). This vulnerability arises from insufficient input sanitization and escaping of announcement settings, which are directly outputted into the front-end context. Consequently, authenticated users with access to the announcement management page (such as Contributors) can craft malicious announcements that execute JavaScript code in the browsers of users viewing the announcements. This presents a significant risk, as it can lead to the theft of cookies, session hijacking, and other malicious activities impacting affected users.
Affected Version(s)
Horizontal scrolling announcements 0 <= 2.6
Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)
PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
