Unauthorized Data Modification Vulnerability in User Registration & Membership Plugin for WordPress
CVE-2026-4056

5.4MEDIUM

What is CVE-2026-4056?

The User Registration & Membership plugin for WordPress suffers from a security flaw that allows authenticated attackers, even those with only Contributor-level access, to manipulate site-wide content restriction rules. This stems from a lack of proper permission checks in the Content Access Rules REST API endpoints, specifically the check_permissions() method, which inadequately verifies user capabilities. Attackers may list, create, modify, toggle, duplicate, and delete these rules, which could lead to unauthorized content exposure or denial of access for legitimate users.
