What is CVE-2026-4057?

The Download Manager plugin for WordPress has a security flaw that allows authenticated users with Contributor-level access and above to alter data permissions on media files they do not own. This flaw arises due to inadequate capability checks in the makeMediaPublic() and makeMediaPrivate() functions, which fail to confirm post ownership adequately. As a result, unauthorized users can strip protection attributes like passwords and access restrictions from media files, exposing sensitive content publicly through direct URLs.
