What is CVE-2026-4261?

The Expire Users plugin for WordPress has a vulnerability that permits authenticated users, with Subscriber access or higher, to escalate their privileges to that of an administrator. This is achievable through the manipulation of the 'on_expire_default_to_role' meta in the 'save_extra_user_profile_fields' function, affecting all versions up to and including 1.2.2. This flaw poses significant risks as it enables unauthorized elevation of access rights, allowing potential attackers to gain full control over the affected site.
