What is CVE-2026-46697?

The Fediverse Embeds plugin for WordPress exposed a severe server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability that allowed unauthenticated users to send requests through an unauthenticated REST endpoint. This endpoint could accept a base64-encoded URL and relay it using the wp_remote_get function without any restrictions. Despite an acknowledgment of the need for validation against allowed domains, earlier versions failed to implement proper checks, enabling anonymous users to retrieve any content accessible via the server, effectively turning the plugin into an open proxy. This vulnerability has been addressed in version 1.5.8.
