What is CVE-2026-91049?
The EWWW Image Optimizer plugin for WordPress, prior to version 8.9.1, suffers from a serious flaw that enables authenticated attackers with author-level permissions or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts. This vulnerability arises from inadequate sanitization and restriction of user-supplied values in post content. The flaw allows attackers to execute malicious scripts that run in the session of any user accessing the affected page, including administrators. This vulnerability is considered a continuation of the issues addressed in previous versions, making versions 8.7.4 through 8.9.0 still vulnerable despite earlier patches.
Affected Version(s)
EWWW Image Optimizer 8.7.4 < 8.9.1
Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)
PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
