What is CVE-2026-91072?

The EWWW Image Optimizer plugin for WordPress, specifically versions preceding 8.8.0, allows attackers with Administrator-level privileges to exploit a weakness related to WebP-derivative file management. This vulnerability is significant as it enables unauthorized users to manipulate, rename, or delete WebP-derivative image files located outside the intended uploads directory. Particularly in a multisite network setup, this flaw permits the inadvertent access to files from other sites that the user should not have any control over, raising serious security concerns for WordPress site administrators.
