What is CVE-2026-92540?

A significant flaw in the Import and Export Users and Customers plugin for WordPress allows users with limited capabilities to manipulate user roles. Specifically, versions prior to 2.5.2 do not properly enforce the promote_users capability during CSV imports, enabling individuals with only the capability to create new users to not only create administrator accounts but also promote existing users to have administrator privileges. This oversight can lead to unauthorized access and significant security risks for WordPress sites.

Affected Version(s)

Import and export users and customers 2.4.16 < 2.5.2

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
