What is CVE-2026-96399?

A vulnerability exists in Gitea that can be exploited when an external issue tracker is misconfigured. Due to a flaw in the regular expression handling of this tracker, users who possess edit permissions can lead to invalid slice indexes during the rendering of issue references. This can result in a runtime panic that crashes the Gitea instance for all users. Consequently, any attempt to view related content, like a README, can become problematic and disrupt the service entirely.
